On March 30, history professor Dr. Cassia Roth joined us for a conversation about her newly published book, her upcoming projects, and student research opportunities at UGA. A Miscarriage of Justice: Women’s Reproductive Lives and the Law in Early Twentieth-Century Brazil (Stanford UP, 2020) details the criminalization of female fertility control in the decades after the abolition of slavery in Brazil in 1888, and the culture of condemnation that resulted from the state's intervention into the reproductive lives of women. Dr. Roth also led a discussion of CURO or the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities, through which students can earn course credit while pursuing original research under the guidance of faculty. Our thanks to Dr. Roth for a thought-provoking and informative academic event!
