Food Sustainability Education

FRC students planting in the community garden in Spring 2021
FRC students planting in the community garden

The FRC community teaches members environmental responsibility through faculty lectures, social events, and community service such that each member leaves our community more aware of their personal role combating global issues such as food waste and food insecurity. In Spring 2021, the FRC began construction for an on-site garden which serves as a food sustainability teaching site to enhance FRC members' relationship with the food they consume. This student-led project (submitted by members Abigail Lauterbach and Casey Serrano, sponsored by Academic Advisor in Residence Chera Jo Watts) received grant funding through the UGA Office of Sustainability Campus Grants Program. Further, the project attracted support from UGA Housing, Facilities Management Division, and UGarden.
